One Reason why Microformats haven't taken off yet

So I was reading my feeds, stumbling upon an interesting comment by Peter Michaux on a post by Dean Edwards: Rules For JavaScript Library Authors . I liked it that much that I decided to quote it on my blog. While marking it up, Microformats came to my mind, and I looked up citation:http://microformats.org/wiki/citation – but alas, citation is still listed under „Exploratory Discussions“.

Something as fundamental as a citation doesn't have a decided-on format? I can see why I might be tempted to just use my own markup when I have to read pages of wiki discussion just to find out that there's no official format on something that basic yet.

But maybe it's all my own fault and I didn't read enough boring specs smile.

By the way, why do all the Microformat pages mention their authors before they mention anything else? Does that sound like those people don't really do Microformats because it would be better for the Web?
